Tokayev meets with CCCC President

According to the Presidential Office News Bureau, Kazakh President Tokayev met with CCCC Zhang Bingnan in Shanghai on July 16, 2026.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the progress of joint projects with strategic significance in strengthening Kazakhstan's transportation, logistics, and energy potential. Tokayev pointed out that the company has been operating in Kazakhstan for many years, successfully implementing complex infrastructure solutions, and is now recognized as a reliable professional partner. In addition, the President emphasized the strategic importance of the construction of the Baktu Ayaguz railway. This railway will significantly increase the freight volume between Kazakhstan and China. During the meeting, both sides also pointed out the importance of establishing a joint venture to carry out dredging work on the seabed of the Caspian Sea.  

The President of the country expressed confidence that the joint venture will help establish a regional center to provide services for maritime traffic safety in the countries along the Caspian Sea and other regions. Both sides also discussed promising initiatives in the energy sector. Tokayev welcomed the agreement signed during his visit to jointly develop Kazakhstan's first hydroelectric power station construction project. This facility will strengthen the national energy system. It is worth mentioning that a hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 600 megatons is planned to be built on the Halhalla River in Almaty Oblast, and CWE is involved in the project.Editor/Min Jing
