Recently, a transmission line that runs through multiple states under the vast wind farms and photovoltaic panels in northeastern Brazil officially broke ground. The 5 million megawatt high-voltage direct current transmission project launched by State Grid Corporation of China is one of the largest transmission franchise projects in Brazil to date. It will transport new energy electricity from the high wind speed and high sunshine areas in the northeast across thousands of kilometers to the main load centers in the central and eastern regions, where stable clean electricity is waiting to alleviate the long-standing problem of power rationing. The project is scheduled to be fully operational by 2029, marking a further deepening of the application of China's ultra-high voltage technology in Latin America's energy transformation.

Cracking the bottleneck of new energy consumption in Brazil
The northeastern region of Brazil is one of the most active areas for wind and solar power development, but with the rapid expansion of new energy, the problem of wind and solar power curtailment has become increasingly prominent due to insufficient transmission channels. The rated transmission capacity of the new line reaches 5 million kilowatts, which can support over 20 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity consumption annually and reduce approximately 6.84 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. After the project is put into operation, the improvement of grid access conditions will reduce the risk of wind and solar power curtailment and enhance the financing feasibility of large-scale new energy bases.

Ultra high voltage adaptation to Brazil's energy landscape
Brazil has a vast territory, and the distribution of hydropower, wind power, and photovoltaic resources does not coincide with population and industrial load centers. Ultra high voltage direct current transmission achieves high-capacity long-distance transmission with lower losses, which perfectly fits the pattern of Brazil's resources in the north and loads in the southeast. This project is financed, constructed, and operated by the Brazilian subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China under a 30-year franchise framework.
