Recently, the projects of Kalu and Bouari, two major areas of the Nigerian Federal Capital District Satellite City Water Supply Project contracted by CGCOC, have been completed and delivered successively, becoming a landmark livelihood project to implement the outcomes of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation in 2024 and deepen China Africa practical cooperation.

In 2024, when President Tinoub of Nigeria came to China to attend the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, CGCOC and the Nigerian Federal Capital District Government signed a memorandum of cooperation on the project. The project was listed as a key local infrastructure for people's livelihood, covering the two satellite cities of Karu and Bouari. The total length of water supply pipelines laid along the whole line was nearly 400 kilometers, which could stably supply clean tap water and benefit nearly one million residents.
On July 14, 2026, the completion ceremony of the Buwali area was successfully held. First Lady of Nepal and Federal Senator Oruriemi Tinubu attended the event on behalf of the President and delivered a speech, announcing that the entire pipeline network was officially put into operation, marking the full implementation and effectiveness of the entire water supply project.

Cracking the drinking water crisis and safeguarding public health
Nigeria has a population of over 200 million, making it the most populous country in Africa, but the water safety situation has been severe for a long time. According to a report by the international charity Save the Children, over 161 million people in Nepal are still using contaminated water sources, and about 70% of children in the country lack access to clean drinking water. This year, there has been an outbreak of cholera in Nepal, with over 8000 confirmed cases and more than 90 deaths. Unclean water sources are the main cause of transmission. In this context, the modern water supply network of the two satellite cities has been completed and put into use, completely solving the difficulties of relying on unpurified well water and streams for decades, long-term water shortage, and substandard water quality in the local area.

Green construction and technological empowerment
During the project construction period, the team overcame challenges such as poor construction conditions during the rainy season and missing underground pipeline data. They also renovated and renovated the water source and booster pump room, repaired the old pipeline network, and built supporting facilities such as valves to achieve the coordinated operation of the "heart" of the water plant and the "blood vessels" of the water supply pipeline; Horizontal directional drilling without excavation technology is used during construction to minimize damage to roads, residential areas, and ecology. During the project construction period, more than 1600 job opportunities were created, and Chinese technical personnel taught professional skills such as pipeline welding step by step, cultivating local water technology talents in batches, and promoting the standardized development of the local water industry.

Witness the value of cooperation from multiple parties
Government officials at all levels in Nigeria highly value the project. Vice President Shetema stated that clean drinking water is a basic guarantee for people's livelihoods, and he thanks Chinese enterprises for their deep cultivation of local infrastructure and support for regional development; First Lady Oruriemi pointed out that the project will fill the long-term water supply gap of the capital's satellite city, optimize the layout of urban functions, and activate the momentum of urban and rural development; Federal Capital Region Minister Wick stated that the CGCOC series water supply project has been implemented, effectively fulfilling the promise of safeguarding people's livelihoods and receiving widespread praise from the public; Danfulani, the head of the Karu community, praised the reliable quality of the projects undertaken by Chinese companies, which meet the needs of local people's livelihoods.

Deeply cultivate the territory and jointly draw a blueprint
CGCOC Nigeria's General Manager Zhong Xiang and Deputy General Manager Lv Haiming attended the ceremony respectively, and stated that the company will continue to deepen its cultivation of the Nigerian market, rely on its own engineering and technological advantages, and continue to deepen sincere cooperation with the Nigerian government. With more high-quality and people-oriented infrastructure projects, the company will implement the "Ten Partnership Actions" of China and Africa to jointly promote modernization, and continue to write a new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Africa.
