The limited capacity and low efficiency of Pakistan's old railways have long constrained mineral transportation and commercial circulation. In order to revitalize transportation resources and activate economic vitality, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan has taken the lead in promoting railway transformation and construction, and is fully committed to accelerating the implementation of multiple key railway projects.

Main Line Renewal

The ML-1 railway is a core railway mainline in Pakistan, with a total length of 1726 kilometers and a total investment of approximately 6.66 billion US dollars. It will be modernized in five stages. At present, the detailed engineering design of the Karachi Rohri section has been completed, which is 480 kilometers long and will start construction later this year. The preparation work for the upgrade of the Roheri Multan section in the second phase is progressing in an orderly manner. Recently, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has requested relevant departments to submit the construction plan for this section as soon as possible, steadily promoting the upgrading of the national main railway.

Speed up of branch line supporting facilities

The ML-3 railway has a total length of approximately 996 kilometers, connecting multiple parts of Brazil and serving as a key transportation channel for mineral resources. The project has received a loan support of 390 million US dollars from Reykjavik Mining Company, and the construction of the Roheri Nakunda section is being promoted through special funds and bridge financing models. In addition, the construction progress of the 112 kilometer railway connection line in the Ta'er coalfield has reached 60%, and it is expected to be completed by December 2026.
