Market development environment

The continuous growth of photovoltaic installed capacity in Romania has formed a significant duck curve, driving up the demand for energy storage support. The local government has introduced favorable policies to open up grid connected channels for supporting energy storage in new energy, exempt related transmission costs, and eliminate double taxation pressure. Romania also relies on the recovery and resilience fund to support the development of gigawatt level energy storage projects, attracting domestic and foreign capital to continue to layout the energy storage track.

Key Energy Storage Projects

Aukera has completed the second phase financing of Gura Ialomitei energy storage, with a total project scale of 250MW/500MWh. The second phase is expected to be put into operation in early 2027. ENEVO has signed a contract with Kraftfeld Energy to develop 110MW/220MWh energy storage power plants, and Sunac Power will supply a total of 1GWh of energy storage equipment. PPC Renewables Romania will construct a 40.08MW/80.16MWh energy storage project in conjunction with the wind farm and receive funding from the EU Modernization Fund.

Industry development value

Supporting energy storage can smooth out fluctuations in wind and solar power generation and improve the stability level of the power grid. Major projects will be put into operation around 2027, and the coordinated development model of energy storage and renewable energy will gradually take shape.
