Under the waves of the Gulf of Siam, dormant oil and gas resources are waiting to awaken. With the first welding arc lit up at the Tianjin Intelligent Manufacturing Base, CNOOC Engineering officially launched the construction of Thailand's BUN4 project. This energy relay across mountains and seas marks the transformation of Chinese offshore engineering from workshop craftsmen to deep-sea directors, shouldering the banner of general contracting in the global high-end EPCI arena.

Overseas mega general contracting project starts construction

Recently, the Bundled Phase IV project of Thai National Petroleum Company, undertaken by CNOOC Engineering, officially started construction at the Tianjin Intelligent Manufacturing Base. BUN4 is the largest offshore oil and gas general contracting project undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Southeast Asia, and it is also an important breakthrough for domestic offshore engineering in the international EPCI market in recent years. The project covers various aspects such as the renovation and installation of new and old platforms, the construction of risers and subsea pipelines, and the laying of subsea pipelines. CNOOC Engineering provides EPCI services for the entire process of design, procurement, construction, transportation, installation, and pre commissioning, achieving one-stop overall delivery. This project is not a single platform construction, but a complete marine oil and gas comprehensive development project.

EPCI tests comprehensive strength

Compared to single construction business, the core of EPCI general contracting lies in the overall management and control of the entire process. From design and procurement to construction, installation, commissioning and delivery, each link is closely connected, and any omission in any link will affect the overall progress. It not only tests manufacturing capabilities, but also examines the comprehensive strength of enterprise design, project management, supply chain integration, and offshore construction. With the global recovery of offshore oil and gas investment, international oil companies generally prefer the integrated general contracting model. This mode can reduce docking interfaces, improve management efficiency, and effectively control project duration, cost, and risk.

China's offshore engineering enters the high-end track

The current international high-end marine EPCI market has long been dominated by overseas giants, and CNOOC Engineering has won the top general contracting project in Southeast Asia, marking China's entry into the international high-end market competition. After the overall construction of the project at the Tianjin base, it will be transported to Thailand for installation, reflecting that China National Offshore Engineering Corporation has upgraded from single equipment manufacturing to full chain engineering delivery. Keywords: CNOOC Engineering, BUN4 Project, Southeast Asia

In the past, domestic marine engineering mostly undertook single processing and construction businesses. Now, they can independently handle the entire process of operations, completing the transformation from an industrial chain manufacturer to an engineering general contractor. For CNOOC Engineering, the BUN4 project is an important benchmark for demonstrating international performance capabilities. After the high-quality delivery of the project, we will deepen our cooperation with PTTEP in Thailand and accumulate high-quality performance for exploring the global offshore market. The global competition in offshore engineering has shifted from single manufacturing to the competition of integrated project delivery capabilities. The start of the BUN4 project fully demonstrates China's manufacturing strength and confirms the steady improvement of China International's EPCI core competitiveness.Editor/Gong Ziwei
