The traction operation on the Gobi Desert has been successfully completed, and the last wire has crossed the national highway and is in place. This 750 kV transmission line with an investment of over 500 million yuan has been fully connected, breaking through a key bottleneck for the external transmission of wind power resources in northern Hami.

Project Overview

The Santanghu Rose Spring double circuit 750 kV transmission line project is located in Barkol Kazakh Autonomous County, Hami. It is a key project of Xinjiang Power Grid during the 14th Five Year Plan period, with a total dynamic investment of 513 million yuan. The total length of the line is 165.677 kilometers, with 353 iron towers installed. Construction will begin in June 2025. As a wind power base with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts, Hami has a summer electricity surplus of up to 7630 megawatts in the north. Coupled with the addition of new energy access scale, the construction of new lines can effectively alleviate the pressure on power grid transmission and activate regional clean energy resources.

Tackling construction challenges

The route is located in the wind zone of Santanghu, with an average of 115 days of strong winds above level 8 per year, and harsh outdoor construction conditions. The construction section crosses the Xinjiang coal transportation hub, the Nao Railway, and high-altitude operations can only be carried out during the nighttime skylight period. The project team innovatively utilizes the insulation double-layer protective net technology to enhance construction protection capabilities and ensure railway operation safety. This construction plan also creates a feasible model for cross barrier construction of ultra-high voltage lines in Xinjiang. Keywords: Xinjiang Power Transmission, Transmission Engineering

After the project is put into operation, it will continue to improve the 750 kV backbone power grid in eastern Xinjiang, expand the new energy transmission path in northern Hami, and consolidate the foundation of Xinjiang's power transmission network. The route promotes the continuous optimization of regional energy structure, supports the implementation of dual carbon goals, stabilizes and guarantees industrial production and residential electricity demand, and empowers high-quality economic development in the eastern Xinjiang region.Editor/Min Jing
