Guinea Lora has officially connected to the national power grid, and the original diesel power generation facilities in the area are about to be decommissioned. The landing of the project indicates a shift in market focus, shrinking construction space for large-scale power transmission and transformation, low-voltage matching of metering equipment, and long-term operation and maintenance business, becoming the main direction for Chinese enterprises to explore the West African power market.

Project Overview

This project belongs to the Guinea Power Access Improvement Project, with over 215 kilometers of new transmission lines, 28 supporting substations, 4079 concrete poles installed, and over a thousand public street lights installed simultaneously, benefiting the urban area of Lora and ten surrounding areas. The total project period is until 2027, with the goal of covering 100000 users and focusing on improving the local electricity level. In 2024, the national electricity rate in Guinea will only be 53.8%, with a significant gap in rural areas.

Market shift

The project funds will be supported by the African Development Bank, and the overall plan will not only increase the number of power generation units, but also focus on promoting the transmission of hydropower resources to end users. The relevant international bidding has been launched, and the procurement list includes tens of thousands of sets of electricity meters and household accessories. The market opportunity is gradually shifting from general contracting of civil engineering to supply, installation, commissioning, and post operation and maintenance services of end equipment. Bid Tips

The industry suggests that Chinese enterprises focus on verifying the acceptance criteria for funding sources, regional load data, and phase II planning. Large scale power generation and high-voltage general contracting opportunities are limited, and low-voltage cable metering devices, substation inspections, and street lamp maintenance enterprises have greater space. Lola is expected to become a model for the development of the forest Guinea distribution network, and can continue to explore orders in conjunction with the Guinea power access expansion phase II project in the future.Editor/Min Jing
