The Dayuefeng Pumped Storage Power Station, spanning Hegang and Yichun, has welcomed investment entities. After more than three years of preparation, the results of the owner selection have been officially announced, and CNNC has successfully won the project. This million kilowatt energy storage project will fill the gap in peak shaving of the eastern power grid in Heilongjiang.

Basic Overview of the Project

The total investment of Dayuefeng Pumped Storage Power Station is 8.863 billion yuan, with an installed capacity of 1400MW. It is one of the few pumped storage projects built across prefecture level cities in China. The lower reservoir is located in the Kalaji River tributary of Hegang, and the upper reservoir is located at the head of the Dafeng River tributary in Yichun. The power station is 335 kilometers away from Harbin in a straight line, 56 kilometers away from Hegang city, and 65 kilometers away from Yichun city, which can effectively cover the load center of the eastern power grid in Heilongjiang Province. The early planned installed capacity of the project is 1800MW, with a total static investment of 10.08 billion yuan.

Project Progress History

As early as February 2023, local governments signed investment and development agreements with relevant entities of China National Nuclear Corporation to establish an early development framework for the project. After multiple rounds of preparation, CNNC officially won the bid in August 2026 and became the main responsible party for the entire project lifecycle. CNNC has also laid out the Boli Jiulong pumped storage power station in Heilongjiang, and the regional pumped storage business continues to expand. Outlook for future construction

With the completion of the owner selection, the project will accelerate the progress of various preliminary work, and the plan is to officially start construction in the early stage of the 15th Five Year Plan. After the completion of the power station, it will undertake functions such as peak shaving, energy storage, and frequency regulation of the power grid, improve the safety and stability level of the eastern power grid in Heilongjiang, assist in the consumption of new energy in the region, and provide important hardware support for the energy transformation in Northeast China.Editor/Min Jing
