In August 2026, CoreWeave announced its first foray into Indonesia, planning to build three data centers with a total contracted IT power capacity of 360 megawatts. This is not a simple market expansion. As of March 2026, this company has operated 49 data centers worldwide, with an operational power capacity of over 1 gigawatt and a contracted power capacity of over 3.5 gigawatts. Now, the Asia Pacific market has been officially incorporated into its global map.
Delay the landing of sensitive workloads in Southeast Asia
The reason why CoreWeave chose Indonesia can be summarized in two words: location and demand.

The demand for AI computing power in Southeast Asia is growing at a rate far exceeding the global average. Delay sensitive workloads require computing power to be as close to users as possible - under AI reasoning, real-time rendering, edge computing and other scenarios, data is transmitted from Indonesia to Singapore or Hong Kong, and the delay difference may reach tens of milliseconds. For AI applications, this directly determines the user experience. With the continuous tightening of data localization regulations in Asia Pacific countries, building data centers locally is becoming a mandatory option instead of an optional one.
CoreWeave's Chief Operating Officer Sachin Jain's statement is straightforward: "Indonesia is becoming one of the fastest-growing destinations for global technology investment in Southeast Asia." In recent years, the Indonesian government has vigorously promoted AI education and digital capacity building - this country with a population of 280 million has a digital economy of over 90 billion US dollars by 2024, and the demand for AI infrastructure is on the brink of explosive growth.

360 MW, to be launched in 2028
Three data centers are expected to be put into operation by 2028, and CoreWeave will own and operate all computing environments. The company also plans to establish a local team responsible for facility operations. Against the backdrop of sustained global shortage of AI computing power supply - Google's Q2 2026 financial report shows that its capital expenditure has been raised to $195-205 billion, still unable to meet the surging demand - Indonesia is becoming a key battlefield in the competition for AI computing power in Southeast Asia.Editor/Cheng Liting
