Recently, QazaqGaz, the national natural gas company of Kazakhstan, held talks with Sinopec to exchange ideas on oil and gas exploration, new oil and gas field development, and low-carbon technology cooperation. On August 5, 2026, the Kazakh side announced that the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Zamauf, met with Zhao Quanmin, the General Manager of Sinopec Kazakhstan.

Promote upstream cooperation in oil and gas

Both parties exchanged views on geological exploration and the development of new oil and gas blocks, shared exploration technology and industry practical experience, in order to improve the operational efficiency of upstream oil and gas business.

Focus on CCUS low-carbon technology

In addition to traditional energy, low-carbon transformation is the focus of this meeting. Harbin hopes to learn from Sinopec's carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology, and explore the implementation path of this technology in the energy industry to strengthen decarbonization technology exchanges. Kazakhstan plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, and CCUS can reduce emissions without reducing production. According to the plan, Kazakhstan will build multiple carbon capture centers with an annual carbon dioxide processing capacity of over 100 million tons by 2060.
