Hundreds of thousands of residents in Morogoro City, Tanzania, have long been plagued by water shortages during the dry season. The insufficient storage capacity of the local core water source, the Mingdu Reservoir, has hindered urban development. POWERCHINA has won a large contract for dam heightening and renovation, using mature water conservancy technology to fill the gaps in East African water supply infrastructure and effectively achieve the well-being of the people.

Core position of water source

Mingdu Reservoir is the primary water supply source in Morogoro City, with about 70% of the city's daily water coming from this reservoir. The dependence on water supply during the dry season has increased to 75%. With population growth and industrial expansion, the original storage capacity is unable to cope with seasonal droughts, and the sudden drop in water level during the dry season directly leads to a shortage of water supply throughout the city.

This heightening project is accompanied by the renovation of overflow weirs, water quality and level monitoring, and dam safety monitoring systems, greatly improving the reservoir's ability to store water during the rainy season and release water during the dry season, enhancing regional resilience to drought resistance and climate change, and solving the problem of water shortage from the root. The project has also received high attention from local high-level officials, and the Governor of Morogoro Province personally attended the signing ceremony, marking that this livelihood project has been included in the important local development plan.

Deeply cultivate local water resources

This dam heightening project is the latest achievement of POWERCHINA's deep cultivation of the Tanzanian water market. Over the years, the company has successively implemented benchmark projects such as the new water supply in Arusha, the urban water supply in Mwanza, the Bangulo water supply in Dar es Salaam, and the Kidunda Dam. Among them, the Bangulo water supply project has benefited 450000 local residents, providing safe drinking water for remote villages. The Kidunda Dam has been listed as a national key flagship project by the local water resources department. The continuous implementation of water conservancy projects has established a stable reputation for cooperation, laying a solid foundation for the smooth signing of this contract.

East African market layout

Small scale livelihood water conservancy projects have a strong rooting effect, and renovation projects that meet the urgent water needs of the public are more likely to accumulate long-term trust and drive subsequent orders to roll out. At present, many countries in East Africa are focusing on strengthening the shortcomings of water supply facilities, releasing demand in segmented fields such as dam reconstruction and expansion, pipeline network upgrading, and water environment monitoring, forming a broad window period for the infrastructure market. POWERCHINA will rely on its professional technical advantages in water conservancy to fulfill its obligations with high quality, continuously expand its water infrastructure map in East Africa, and assist in the sustainable utilization of regional water resources. After the completion of the project, the Morogoro urban water supply system will be comprehensively optimized, the level of flood prevention and disaster reduction will be improved, and reliable water resources support will be provided for the long-term development of the local social economy.Editor/Min Jing
