CCECC Secures Large PV Project in Romania, Driving Balkan Green Transformation

In Gorj County, located in the southwestern part of Romania on the Balkan Peninsula, an idle storage yard once filled with thermal power waste is about to undergo a new transformation.

The abandoned sites of the old thermal power industry have been idle for a long time and are difficult to revitalize. The local energy transformation also urgently needs high-quality landing project support. CCECC, together with overseas partners, has won a heavyweight photovoltaic project, transforming abandoned industrial land into a clean energy power generation base and injecting strong Chinese momentum into the decarbonization path of the local area.

The old factory site is revitalized

On August 10, 2026, CCECC, in collaboration with Spain's ALDESA company, signed a business contract with Romania's Oltenia Energy Group consortium to finalize cooperation on EPC and operation and maintenance projects for four photovoltaic power stations in Gorj County. This is the first batch of photovoltaic projects won by CCECC in Europe, laying a solid foundation for the company's overseas new energy expansion. The project relies on the existing ash and slag yards of two thermal power plants for construction, completing the iterative upgrade of traditional industrial sites to green energy positions. The total installed capacity on the DC side is about 394.89MWp, and different specifications of booster stations are provided in two sections. The entire process includes design, procurement, construction, commissioning, grid connection, and 36 months of operation and maintenance handover.

Competitive bidding stands out

There are 13 local and international enterprises competing on the same stage in this project bidding, and the industry competition atmosphere is very fierce. The CCECC consortium, relying on years of accumulated overseas engineering experience, mature and complete new energy EPC construction capabilities, and scientifically comprehensive overall technical solutions, has taken the lead among numerous bidders. This signing is also a key milestone for CCECC Europe Regional Center and Spanish cooperative enterprises to deepen their layout in the European new energy market, fully demonstrating the full trust of overseas owners in the comprehensive strength and performance guarantee ability of the Chinese team.

Anchor the target and advance at full speed

After the completion of the project, it will accelerate the transformation process of Romania's old fossil energy industrial base, help the country implement the overall strategy of energy decarbonization, optimize the regional energy supply structure, and establish a replicable model for low-carbon development in the Balkans. In the future, CCECC will collaborate with the Railway Construction Electrification Bureau to build a special construction team, coordinate various processes throughout the project chain, and complete the project construction with high standards, high quality, and high efficiency to ensure the smooth handover of the power station to the grid on schedule.
