When the gaze of oilfield drilling rigs is no longer limited to underground black gold, but turns to high-precision and cutting-edge chemical new materials, a silent industrial transformation has already occurred. Faced with the restructuring of the global supply chain, China National Petroleum Corporation is tearing off its traditional label and building a resilient foundation for major country manufacturing through independent breakthroughs in industrial grains such as high-end polyolefins.

Accelerating butterfly transition from fuel type to material type

From January to July 2026, CNPC's new material production reached 3.134 million tons, a significant increase of 59.9% year-on-year, and the sales volume of chemical new materials increased by 89.93% year-on-year. The company's chemical industry continues to upgrade towards high-end, green, and differentiated directions, effectively consolidating the stable foundation of the industrial and supply chains, ensuring stable supply of new materials domestically, and empowering people's livelihoods and industrial development.

Fill the key gaps with an integrated mechanism

Affected by the international war, the global energy and chemical industry chain continues to reconstruct, and the utilization rate of overseas chemical production capacity has fallen to a low level. The fragility of a single supply chain continues to be highlighted, and market demand has shifted from efficiency priority to safety and resilience priority. The demand for domestic substitution of new materials is becoming increasingly strong. In the face of industry changes, CNPC continues to optimize the integrated mechanism of production, sales, research and application, and has established 28 special working groups covering key areas such as photovoltaic materials, medical raw materials, and high-end polyolefins. Together with industry leaders, 12 innovation consortia have been established to create 15 core advantageous products. Enterprises accurately connect with high-end market demand, specializing in import dependent high-end materials, effectively filling the gaps in domestic supply. Hardcore technology opens up the global high-end market

At present, CNPC has achieved significant breakthroughs in multiple high-end chemical products, and the self-developed gas-phase POE material has been mass-produced on a large scale, breaking the foreign technology blockade; Products such as heat-resistant polypropylene, metallocene polyethylene, and high-end solution polymerized styrene butadiene rubber have gradually achieved domestic substitution, stabilizing key industries such as automobiles, home appliances, and new energy. Multiple products have obtained international authoritative certifications. Relying on the advantages of a complete industrial chain, the enterprise achieves stable self-sufficiency in ABS products and strengthens the resilience of the supply chain. At the same time, seizing opportunities in overseas markets, exporting high-end chemicals through the China Europe freight train, achieving direct sales of synthetic resins to the United States, and integrating medical beauty materials into the Korean supply chain, continuously expanding the path of international development, and significantly enhancing international market competitiveness.Editor/Gong Ziwei
