Algeria is vigorously developing phosphate mineral resources in the east and urgently needs to open up efficient overseas logistics channels. The official met with a delegation from China Communications Construction Corporation in the capital city of Algiers to finalize the details of upgrading Annaba Port and constructing a mining railway, relying on China's infrastructure strength to build an integrated transportation network and promote the quality and efficiency improvement of local resource industries.

Port level upgrade

The Annaba Port expansion project is implemented by China Harbour using the EPC general contracting model. It is located in Annaba City, eastern Algeria, and will build 6 new loading and unloading berths, as well as complete supporting facilities such as railway loading and unloading stations, storage areas, public works, fire protection and maintenance. After the completion of the project, the port's phosphate ore and bulk cargo throughput capacity will be significantly enhanced, stabilizing the core hub position of eastern mineral exports.

Railway connecting mining areas

The 121 kilometer eastern mining railway is constructed by a consortium led by China Road and Bridge Corporation and is an important component of the 422 kilometer phosphate main railway in Afghanistan. The route is designed with dual tracks, including 46 bridges and 10 tunnels. After completion, it will connect the phosphate mining area, industrial park, and Annaba Port in Tebessa Province, thoroughly optimizing the long-distance logistics path of inland mineral resources and reducing overall transportation losses and costs. Deepen pragmatic cooperation

The two major infrastructure projects carry the development demands of the entire phosphate industry chain in Algeria, realizing the closed-loop operation of mineral mining, processing, transportation, and export, and enhancing the international market competitiveness of the fertilizer industry. China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC) relies on its rich experience in large-scale port and railway projects to steadily promote project implementation, continuously consolidate the foundation of cooperation in the field of infrastructure between China and Arab countries, and assist in the construction of infrastructure connectivity in North Africa.Editor/Min Jing
