In the vast Gobi Desert, the evening breeze is majestic, and white wind turbines stand tall, outlining a new landscape of green energy on the barren land of Barkol in Hami, Xinjiang. After experiencing 422 days of ups and downs and overcoming difficulties, the Hami Jiahui New Energy Phase I 200000 kW wind power project, undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 11, has completed the commissioning of all wind turbines and successfully achieved full capacity grid connection, adding another outstanding achievement to the clean energy construction in Northwest China.

Fierce Battle in the Gobi Desert, Ultimate Challenge, Fulfillment of Contract

The project is located in Barkol Kazakh Autonomous County, Hami City, with abundant wind energy resources in the region. It is a key clean energy layout site in Xinjiang, but it has extremely harsh natural construction conditions. The highest temperature in the local summer can reach 40 ℃, and the lowest temperature in winter can be as low as -35 ℃. The temperature difference between day and night exceeds 20 ℃, and there are frequent strong winds with the highest gust speed exceeding 30 meters per second. The effective construction window period is very limited, which brings great challenges to engineering construction.

Faced with the harsh construction environment in the Gobi Desert, a young construction team with an average age of only 30 stepped forward, rooted in the wilderness, and stood firm on the front line. During the 422 day construction period, all members of the team gathered together, overcame difficulties, strictly implemented construction standards, strictly adhered to the bottom line of safety production, achieved zero accidents throughout the process, and successfully completed various construction tasks. They demonstrated the responsibility and commitment of the infrastructure iron army with their youth and perseverance.

Precision research technology solves construction problems

In response to various construction challenges caused by extreme climate in the Gobi Desert, the project team has overcome engineering bottlenecks through technological innovation and precise control. In the construction of the fan foundation, the team adopts a layered continuous pouring process, combined with intelligent temperature measurement equipment and multi-layer insulation protection, to accurately control the construction temperature difference, effectively solve the problem of cracking in large volume concrete, and stabilize the engineering quality.

Faced with the challenges of frequent strong winds and short lifting window periods, the project department has built a comprehensive intelligent meteorological monitoring system to accurately capture the golden working hours. Simultaneously promoting smart security and grid management, 24-hour dynamic supervision is implemented for high-altitude operations and large-scale lifting, efficiently completing the lifting work of 20 wind turbines. In the sprint stage of grid connection, the project department, together with the power grid and equipment manufacturers, established a commissioning team, refined division of labor, consolidated responsibilities, completed thousands of parameter verifications and special tests for the booster station, successfully passed various inspections, and ensured the smooth grid connection of the project.

Red Sail Navigation Empowers Green Development

Party building leadership injects strong momentum into project tackling, and the project party branch carries out the Party member leading project, fully leveraging the role of Party organizations and Party members as pioneers. At critical junctures such as extreme cold repair and pouring sprint, the Party member assault team took the initiative and charged ahead, efficiently solving multiple construction problems and helping the project steadily advance. The project department is synchronously carrying out detailed and solid logistics support work, providing heatstroke and cold prevention materials for extreme weather in the Gobi Desert, ensuring all-weather hot meal supply, providing thoughtful logistics services to warm up frontline builders, and consolidating the strong joint force of all staff to safeguard the high-quality construction of the project. After the project is fully connected to the grid, it can annually deliver 640 million kilowatt hours of clean green electricity, effectively improving the clean energy supply system in Xinjiang. According to calculations, the project can save 193200 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 525900 tons annually, significantly reducing regional fossil energy consumption. The orderly transformation of green wind energy in the Gobi Desert will continue to empower regional energy transformation and ecological development, and increase efficiency for green construction along the Silk Road.Editor/Huang jiali
