The hydraulic main construction of the second phase of the Banpu operation area in the Xinhaigang District of Lianyungang Neihe Port has been officially announced as completed, and the project has fully entered the equipment installation and commissioning stage. It is expected that all acceptance preparations will be completed by the end of August. As a key inland river industry project at the provincial and municipal levels, the completion of the construction of this terminal directly fills the long-standing lack of large-scale inland river freight capacity in Haizhou District, and opens up key bottlenecks for the regional public water intermodal transportation system.

Building a new framework for inland waterway freight transportation with a thousand ton berth

The project is located in Shanhou River, Banpu Town, Haizhou District, between the old and new Shanhou River bridges. The total investment is about 445 million yuan, and a total of 7 thousand ton berths are planned and constructed. The designed annual cargo transfer capacity is 2.14 million tons. At present, the hydraulic structure, revetment engineering, and waiting area of the dock have all been completed. The final work such as road hardening, environmental protection facility commissioning, and supporting building decoration in the port area are being carried out synchronously. The overall construction quality and safety indicators have all reached the standards for inland port construction in Jiangsu Province.

Previously, Haizhou District lacked large-scale inland waterway freight nodes, and long-distance transportation of bulk goods heavily relied on highways, resulting in long-term high logistics costs. After the port is put into use, local steel, grain, and containers can be directly transported to ports in southern Jiangsu and along the Yangtze River through inland waterways, completely opening up low-cost logistics channels in inland rivers and significantly reducing the comprehensive transportation cost of bulk materials in the region.

Port industry linkage activates new space for port related industries

Relying on the coordinated operation advantages of the first and second phase docks in the Banpu operation area, the synchronously planned Lingang Logistics Industrial Park will also enter the stage of investment promotion and landing, focusing on attracting warehousing and logistics, bulk trade, and freight forwarding enterprises. In the future, this port area will form a complete inland port industrial cluster integrating loading and unloading, warehousing, processing, and multimodal distribution, no longer just a single cargo loading and unloading node.

Unlike traditional inland river terminals that only focus on loading and unloading functions, this project has anchored the development direction of port industry collaboration from the early planning stage, directly linking the cargo capacity of the terminal with the development of the industrial park in the rear, and transforming the cost advantage of inland river logistics directly into a competitive advantage of regional industries.

From the comprehensive completion of the hydraulic main body to the preparation for acceptance by the end of August, the commissioning of this thousand ton inland river terminal is getting closer and closer. It is not only an important new node in Lianyungang's inland waterway transportation network, but also a core support for Haizhou District to connect the last mile of public water intermodal transportation and reduce regional industrial logistics costs.Editor/Cheng Liting
