On August 18, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Akombekov, led a delegation to visit Xinjiang, China and held talks with Tian Hongbin, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec. The two sides focused on discussing the expansion of cooperation in petroleum product trade. Akhubekov stated that Kyrgyzstan is actively expanding its energy import channels and intends to increase the import of petroleum products from China. Some companies have signed contracts for the supply of aviation fuel and diesel, and the first batch of fuel has successfully arrived. China Kyrgyzstan energy cooperation is extending from traditional oil and gas exploration to the entire industry chain, including petroleum product trade and refining facility construction.

Kyrgyzstan expands import channels

During his visit to Xinjiang, Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Prime Minister Akhunbakov stated that Kyrgyzstan is actively expanding its energy import channels and intends to increase the import of petroleum products from China. Both parties discussed the establishment of direct contact between Sinopec and Kyrgyz fuel lubricant enterprises and the supply of petroleum products, and have reached an agreement on simplifying the supply of fuel lubricants. Several Kyrgyz companies have signed contracts for the supply of aviation fuel and diesel, and the first batch of fuel has been successfully delivered, marking a substantial stage in the trade of petroleum products between China and Kyrgyzstan. As a landlocked country in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan's diversified energy import channels are of great significance in ensuring domestic energy security.

Synchronized promotion of cooperation in multiple fields

During the meeting, both sides also discussed cooperation plans in the fields of oil and gas exploration and development, refinery construction, and border cargo storage and transportation infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan. As one of the largest petrochemical companies in China, Sinopec has rich technological accumulation in oil and gas exploration and development, refining and chemical industries. The cooperation between the two parties will gradually expand from simple petroleum product trade to the entire industry chain, including upstream exploration and development, midstream refining and processing, and downstream storage and logistics. Kyrgyzstan is located in the hinterland of Central Asia, with great potential for oil and gas exploration and development.
