In early autumn in the mountainous area of southern Anhui, new progress was reported at the construction site of Jiapeng Pumped Storage Power Station in Jixi, Anhui. The successful completion of the entry operation of the 6th construction support tunnel directly marks the full start of the construction of the underground cavern group of the project, which has accelerated the construction of the entire main project.

Core channel connects the construction process

As the throat passage of the lower reservoir hub, the 6th construction support tunnel undertakes the core functions of excavation support, concrete pouring, and transportation of various engineering materials for the main tunnel. The smooth entry of this channel has completely opened up the operation flow of the lower storage chamber group, enabling efficient linkage of the originally scattered construction surfaces. The pace of subsequent processes will be significantly improved, which has seized a critical time window for the civil engineering of the entire project.

As a key implementation project of the 14th Five Year Plan for the medium and long-term development of pumped storage in China, the construction progress of this power station has always been an important focus of the new power system construction in the East China region.

The value of regional power grids is gradually being released

After the completion and operation of this pumped storage power station, it will fully undertake core functions such as peak shaving and valley filling, energy storage frequency regulation and phase adjustment, and emergency backup for the East China Power Grid. The designed annual power generation capacity can reach 1.4 billion kilowatt hours. Its implementation will greatly enhance the flexible regulation capability of the East China Power Grid, providing key support for the large-scale grid integration and consumption of renewable energy such as wind and photovoltaic in the region. At the same time, it can effectively stabilize the load fluctuations of the power grid, ensure the safety of power supply under extreme working conditions, and inject stable green power regulation power into the green and low-carbon transformation of the southern Anhui region.
