On the east coast of the Gulf of Oman, a deep-water port is quietly rewriting the maritime map of the Middle East. The UAE Gulf Terminal Group is advancing the expansion of the Khorfakan Port, with container throughput capacity moving towards millions of TEUs. Deepwater berths avoid the throat of the Strait of Hormuz, and with the support of railways and logistics parks, this East Coast gateway is rising from a regional port to a new pivot for Asia Europe trade.

The Gulf Terminal Group in the United Arab Emirates is advancing the expansion project of the Khorfakan commercial container terminal. This upgrade will increase the current annual container throughput of the terminal from 3.5 million TEUs to 5 million TEUs, and the long-term planned production capacity will exceed 10 million TEUs, doubling the overall throughput capacity. The Sharjah government aims to consolidate the strategic advantage of the gateway hub of Khorfakan Port on the east coast of the Gulf of Oman through port expansion.

Significant location advantage

On August 16, 2026, the United Arab Emirates officially released its port development plan, clarifying the coordinated development layout of ports, shipping routes, and the global logistics network. The Port of Haval is equipped with deep-water berths and large shore bridge equipment, which can accommodate the world's largest container ships. The port area is located on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, and ships can directly reach the Gulf of Oman without bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. The advantages of shipping location and passage are very prominent.

Complete supporting layout

This terminal expansion is an important part of Gulf Terminal Group's $2 billion global trade infrastructure strategy. The project will simultaneously support the construction of two major logistics parks, Daiid and Saja'a, with a total logistics processing capacity of 2.3 million TEUs per year after completion. At the same time, the group plans to connect the port area with the Etihad railway network, establish a multimodal transportation system for sea, road, and railway, and improve cross-border logistics channels. Strong dock foundation

The hardware facilities of the Haofeikan commercial terminal are complete, with 6 berths, 1880 meters of coastline, 18 shore bridge equipment, and a container yard area of 450000 square meters. The Gulf Terminal Group was established in Sharjah in 1976 and is affiliated with the UAE Crescent Group. With an official franchise agreement, it is fully responsible for the operation and management of the terminal.Editor/Gong Ziwei
