In the winter of 2026 in the southern hemisphere, many parts of Chile will be hit by concentrated extreme weather, causing a sudden increase in pressure on the power grid to ensure supply. A set of smart grid early warning system from China has been officially put into operation, which has built a protective network for the stable supply of electricity in more than 340 local cities and towns. This is also the latest achievement of China Chile energy technology cooperation under the framework of high-quality joint construction of the the Belt and Road.
New Line of Defense for the Power Grid under Extreme Weather Conditions
In previous years, Chile experienced heavy rainfall, blizzards, and cold waves in winter, causing frequent power grid failures. Emergency repairs often lagged behind the spread of the disaster's impact. The intelligent warning system introduced by Chile General Electric Company, controlled by China State Grid Corporation, in 2026 can conduct real-time dynamic analysis of meteorological data from more than 340 municipalities across the country, and identify potential risk points in the power grid in advance. Based on the precise prediction results output by the system, the operation and maintenance team can complete the pre deployment of repair resources before disasters occur, significantly improving emergency response efficiency. The duration of power outages in extreme weather conditions has decreased by nearly 40% compared to the same period in previous years.

Energy technology cooperation continues to deepen
This intelligent warning system is not a single technological output, but a microcosm of China Chile energy interconnection and cooperation. In recent years, cooperation between China and the countries jointly building the the Belt and Road in power grid operation and maintenance, new energy grid connection, cross-border power dispatching and other fields has continued to be implemented, and more than 20 sets of similar smart grid solutions have been exported to Latin America, covering nearly 10 million people's daily electricity security. The localized operation and maintenance team has completed the full process technical training synchronously.
