On August 25, 2026, Indonesian President Prabowo officially announced the overall development plan for 100GW of photovoltaic power generation nationwide. The first batch of 14 photovoltaic power stations will start construction simultaneously in six provinces, marking the substantial implementation stage of the largest photovoltaic development strategy in Southeast Asia.

National photovoltaic development plan fully launched

The 100GW photovoltaic power generation project announced this time has an overall planning and construction period of three years. The Indonesian energy regulatory department has received clear promotion requirements and strives to achieve early completion within two years. The first batch of 14 photovoltaic power stations to start construction are distributed in six provinces including West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, Bangka Belitung, and Riau Islands, with a total installed capacity of 5.3GW. Priority will be given to landing in core areas with mature power consumption conditions and sufficient land resource reserves.

This project is a core component of Indonesia's national energy self-sufficiency strategy. Through the large-scale development of photovoltaic power generation, it synchronously promotes the utilization of geothermal energy, the development of new gas fields, and the steady increase in oil production. It will systematically reduce Indonesia's long-term dependence on imported energy and fundamentally change the domestic energy supply structure.

Benchmark project implementation, clear development path

According to publicly available data from the Indonesian National Electric Power Company, the planned capacity of the Jilimanuk Photovoltaic Power Station located in Bali is 300MW, with a supporting 1000MWh battery energy storage system. The total capital expenditure of the project is approximately 6.057 trillion Indonesian rupiahs. According to calculations, the annual power generation of this power station can reach 470GWh, and it is expected to directly save 151000 liters of fuel consumption each year, providing a benchmark sample that can be directly reused for the construction of integrated photovoltaic and energy storage projects nationwide.

At present, the domestic electricity demand in Indonesia continues to maintain rigid growth, and the import cost of traditional fossil fuels has been high for a long time. After the large-scale development of photovoltaics is implemented, it will significantly increase the proportion of domestic clean energy supply, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent reduction of industrial electricity costs and cross-border power interconnection.
