On August 28, 2026, the Ethiopian Airlines ET3005 all cargo plane, which took off from Addis Ababa, landed smoothly at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, marking the official opening of Chengdu's first direct all cargo route to Africa and adding new transportation capacity for direct cargo exchanges between Southwest China and Africa.

It is reported that the Chengdu Tianfu Addis Ababa route will be operated by Boeing 777F all cargo aircraft, with two flights per Monday and Friday at the current stage. In the future, dynamic optimization of capacity will be carried out to increase the frequency of flights to four per week, continuously improving the cargo carrying capacity and operational stability of the route.

Tang Ruibo, General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines China, said that after the opening of the route, relying on the core hub of Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa for transit, Chengdu's outbound cargo can be efficiently distributed to key cities in 54 African countries such as Lagos, Accra, Dakar, Entebbe, and Lubumbashi, opening up the air transport link from the western inland to Africa and providing large-scale and efficient air logistics support for China Africa commercial circulation.
