In the morning light of the Cyberport waterfront, a pure electric air taxi silently rises, sweeping over the shadows of Hong Kong's Mystique Tower and the waters of the outlying islands. The launch of domestically produced autonomous driving eVTOL is not only a rehearsal for three-dimensional commuting in super cities, but also marks the first joint training of mainland technology, Hong Kong operations, and special administrative region regulation on the new low altitude economy track.

First flight milestone

On August 28, 2026, a domestically produced autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft completed its public maiden flight at the Cyberport waterfront in Hong Kong, achieving a historic test flight breakthrough for Hong Kong air taxis. The EH216-S project, jointly promoted by Cyberport, Guanzhong Smart Mobility, and Yihang Intelligence, has been selected as one of the first pilot projects for the Hong Kong Low altitude Economic Supervision Sandbox X.

The aircraft autonomously completed the entire process of takeoff, cruising, hovering, and landing at the Cyberport vertical takeoff and landing site, and conducted multiple days of public test flight simulation operations. The SAR government has clearly stated that it will study exclusive legislation for non-traditional aircraft, and the relevant subsidiary legislation is planned to be submitted to the Legislative Council for review in 2027, laying a regulatory foundation that emphasizes both safety and foresight for low altitude travel.

Sandbox exploration systematization

Regulatory Sandbox X is designed for heavy and non-traditional aircraft, accumulating real airspace and dispatch data in a controllable environment. The public test flight of the manned eVTOL marks the transition of Hong Kong's low altitude economy from a single test to an integrated system of station, dispatch, connection, and service exploration. High density buildings and offshore scenes force system verification, providing reusable samples for the Greater Bay Area and even global mega cities. Three dimensional travel opens up a new era

EVTOL does not require a runway and can take off and land on the rooftop seaside, accurately adapting to the pain points of cross district commuting and island travel in Hong Kong.
