The Shanghai Lingang New Area has added another heavyweight aviation infrastructure landmark, with the large-scale maintenance hangar project constructed by CR18G officially put into operation. The project has overcome multiple challenges in ultra large span construction and broken industry records with its hardcore construction technology, laying a solid hardware foundation for the expansion and quality improvement of the domestic aviation maintenance industry.

Super hangar unveiled

The China Eastern Airlines International Aviation Maintenance Service Platform project, which has been put into operation this time, is located in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai, including 11 individual units such as Hangar 1, Hangar 2, and Aircraft Material Warehouse, as well as supporting outdoor projects. The Core 1 Maintenance Hangar Hall has a span of 313 meters, a depth of 146 meters, and an area of approximately 46000 square meters. It can accommodate 9 wide body aircraft and 2 narrow body aircraft for complete machine maintenance operations at the same time. It is the largest wide body aircraft maintenance hangar in Asia and a rare ultra long span aviation maintenance venue in the world.

Hardcore technology breakthrough

In response to the construction difficulties of large-span roofs, the project team has collaborated with universities and industry experts to optimize the construction plan and innovatively apply multiple cutting-edge construction technologies. The hangar adopts a three-layer inclined four corner cone welded ball grid system, using a large amount of Q420A high-strength steel, with a maximum steel plate thickness of 120 millimeters, setting a precedent for similar grid construction in the aviation field. The project adopts the in-situ assembly and overall lifting construction method, lifting a roof of 41000 square meters and over 7000 tons by 21.4 meters at once. With 24 intelligent lifting points, millimeter level precision control is achieved, and the entire process is digitally monitored to ensure construction safety and stability. At the same time, the project utilizes BIM technology to optimize the site layout and efficiently solve the problem of limited construction space. Empowering industrial upgrading

This project is the core supporting facility for the construction of Shanghai International Aviation Hub and a landmark project for the local high-end aviation industry. After the project is put into operation, it will deeply link the Lingang Aircraft Industry Park and the COMAC Final Assembly and Delivery Center, gather upstream and downstream industrial resources such as aviation parts manufacturing and new aviation materials, and create a large-scale aviation maintenance industry cluster. Continuously strengthen the core advantages of the aviation industry in the Yangtze River Delta of Shanghai, and further enhance the internationalization level and global influence of the domestic aviation maintenance industry.Editor/Min Jing
