At the Yibin booth of the 2026 World Power Battery Conference, a semi-solid state battery with a single energy density exceeding 400Wh/kg has just completed its on-site performance demonstration, and representatives from global automotive and energy companies have stopped to record it. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially disclosed at the conference that China has established a globally leading power battery industry system. Starting from a loading capacity of 63.6GWh in 2020, it has completed an industrial leap with a scale growth of over ten times in five years, firmly occupying the core leading position of the global power battery industry.

Leading the world in both scale and technology dimensions

From January to July 2026, the installed capacity of power batteries in China has reached 410.2 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 28.7% compared to the same period in 2025, and the global market share continues to remain above 65%. Technological breakthroughs have been made in multiple routes simultaneously, with the mass production energy density of lithium iron phosphate batteries exceeding 210Wh/kg, ternary batteries reaching 300Wh/kg, sodium ion batteries achieving large-scale vehicle assembly, and hybrid solid-liquid batteries entering the stage of small-scale demonstration operation. The newly launched national standard for power batteries has increased the observation time for thermal runaway safety from 5 minutes to 2 hours, significantly raising the safety and quality threshold for the entire industry.

Establishing a closed-loop system for the entire industry chain and strengthening industrial advantages

China has established a complete industrial chain system covering lithium ore resource processing, positive and negative electrode materials, battery cell manufacturing, system integration, intelligent equipment, and hierarchical recycling. By 2026, the number of domestic power battery recycling outlets has exceeded 3200, and the recycling and utilization rate of lithium iron phosphate materials has remained stable at over 95%. The independent and controllable ability of the entire chain, from upstream raw material supply to downstream terminal applications, enables China's power battery industry to maintain stable delivery and cost advantages in the fluctuations of the global supply chain.

From an annual output of over 60 GWh in 2020 to an annual loading capacity of nearly 900 GWh by 2026, China's power battery industry has firmly grasped the core initiative of green energy in its hands within five years.Editor/Cheng Liting
