On September 2, 2026, in the Gobi Desert of Yiwu County, Hami, a modern pilot workshop had machines beeping low and dashboard indicator lights flashing continuously. The air was filled with a faint smell of chemical raw materials. This is the first pilot base for rich oil coal in Xinjiang - a dark rich oil coal that is undergoing fission into triphenyl chemical raw materials, aerospace specialty oils, and high-performance carbon materials. From laboratory to industrialization, the technological code of black gold to green gold is being deciphered line by line on this desert.

Three party joint construction to open up conversion channels
Hami Rich Oil and Coal Research Institute is jointly built by Yiwu County Government, Xinjiang University and Xinjiang Xuandong Energy. The government provides the site and plant. Based on the overall planning of State Key Laboratory, Xinjiang University provides public auxiliary facilities for enterprises. Eight pilot plants have been built in the park, covering the entire chain from pyrolysis conversion to coal tar pretreatment, grading and quality utilization. The research institute will be established in 2023, complete land leveling in 2024, enter the main construction period in 2025, and fully put into operation in 2026.

One coal becomes more gold, targeting the high-end market
The production of scarce products such as triphenyl and PX through catalytic reforming of light component naphtha fractions; The middle and upper components of the phenol oil fraction are rich in phenolic compounds, and a 100000 ton phenol extraction plant has been built, becoming a successful case of industrial transformation; Developing aerospace specialty oil processes using middle distillates; Heavy components are providing technical support for the comprehensive utilization project of 400000 tons of special oil. Lantan breaks through the situation and goes hand in hand with green research and development
In response to the pain point of low downstream utilization value of orchid charcoal, Xinjiang University has constructed a pilot plant to convert orchid charcoal foam into synthetic gas, providing technical support for downstream industries in the park.
