The construction of the Bogota Metro in Colombia has made new progress. After the local resumption of the bidding for the Metro Line 2 project, three international consortia have completed the pre qualification application. After two years, Chinese companies have once again entered the competition, relying on their mature experience in rail transit construction to compete for this billion dollar overseas infrastructure project.

The bidding pattern has been announced

On September 7, 2026, the Bogota Metro Company announced that three international consortia had submitted applications for pre qualification of the Metro Line 2 project, marking a critical progress in the bidding process. The three major consortia participating in this bidding have their own advantages, namely the consortium formed by CCCC's joint venture with French enterprises, the local consortium formed by Xi'an Metro, and the consortium led by Spanish enterprises. The relevant team will review the application materials from the perspectives of legal qualifications, financial strength, and construction experience. The entities that pass the preliminary review will submit technical and economic quotations by the end of 2026, and the project is expected to be signed and started in the second half of 2027.

Highlight project value

The Bogota Metro Line 2 has a total length of 15.5 kilometers and is planned to have 11 stations, including 10 underground stations and 1 elevated station. The total investment is approximately 8.766 billion US dollars, mainly serving the core urban area of the city. After the completion of the project, it will fill the gaps in local public transportation, connect the urban transportation network, improve the overall rail transit system, and greatly enhance the travel efficiency of Bogota citizens. The mayor of Bogota stated that this project is the core project for expanding and upgrading the local rail transit network. Keywords: Bogota Metro, Chinese Enterprises Overseas Infrastructure

It is reported that Chinese enterprises have previously participated in the construction of the Bogota Metro and successfully won the bid for the local Metro Line 1 project in 2019. Previously, in the first round of bidding for Metro Line 2, the Chinese enterprise consortium was unfortunately eliminated due to equity issues, and the first round of bidding was declared invalid in January 2026. After the resumption of bidding for the project in March 2026, Chinese enterprises once again participated in the competition, fully competing for this important overseas infrastructure project.Editor/Min Jing
