The Angolan waters on the east coast of the Atlantic contain the energy ambitions of Africa's second largest oil producing country under the huge waves. French energy giant Total is stepping up its layout in this rich mine, planning to collaborate with partners to advance multiple offshore oil and gas projects, empower exploration with artificial intelligence, and continue writing a new version of Africa's energy map in deep waters.
Officially announced billion dollar investment plan
Patrick Puyane, CEO of French oil and gas giant Total Energy, announced at an oil conference held in Luanda on Wednesday that the company plans to invest $10 billion in Angola over the next five years in collaboration with partners to increase production from multiple oil and gas projects.

Angola is the second largest crude oil producer in sub Saharan Africa, with production second only to Nigeria. Domestic offshore oil fields are gradually entering a mature stage, prompting Angola to promote large-scale regulatory reforms, attract exploration investment, and stabilize crude oil production.Patrick Puyane introduced that Total Energy is Angola's largest oil operator, currently producing about 450000 barrels of crude oil per day in Angola, and the company is making every effort to maintain this production capacity. Angola is also striving to maintain a daily crude oil production of around 1 million barrels. He mentioned to the attending representatives that continuous investment is essential to achieve the above production targets.
Implement diversified development layout
Total Energy is advancing the Kaminho project with a total investment of $6 billion. The project is located approximately 100 kilometers off the coast of Angola, and the company has completed the final investment decision for the project in 2024. The project is located in the Kuanza Basin and will be connected to Total's seventh floating production, storage, and offloading unit in Angola. It is expected to be put into operation in 2028. Puyane revealed on Wednesday that Total Energy has partnered with ExxonMobil to obtain two new exploration licenses for Block 17 and Block 32 offshore in Angola. At the same time, Total Energy will collaborate with multiple large enterprises to launch an artificial intelligence earth science project, leveraging AI technology to assist in the exploration of offshore oil and gas blocks in Angola. He stated that this technology will be applied first in the Angola Basin. The exploration potential of this area is considerable, and the existing oil and gas discoveries in Block 17 and Block 0 prove that there are still new oil and gas resources waiting to be explored in the local area.Editor/Gong Ziwei
