In the cold winter of December, at a highway service area in North China, a new energy vehicle owner stared at the continuously decreasing range numbers on the dashboard and turned off the warm air repeatedly. Range anxiety and the risk of thermal runaway are two dark clouds hanging over electric vehicles. And what the industry hopes to dispel them at the same time is a battery without liquid.
In the autumn of 2026, the schedule for this battery suddenly became clear.

BYD draws a roadmap
On September 14, 2026, Li Ke, Senior Vice President of BYD, revealed in an interview with overseas media that BYD plans to launch its first vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries in 2027. This is the first time BYD has set a timeline for the commercialization of solid-state batteries in such a clear manner.
In fact, the layout of this enterprise has already been laid out. In February of this year, Sun Huajun, CTO of BYD Lithium Battery Co., Ltd., stated at the 2nd China All Solid State Battery Innovation and Development Summit that BYD will start mass demonstration and installation of all solid state batteries around 2027, and achieve large-scale installation after 2030. From a technological perspective, BYD focuses on investing in sulfide all solid state batteries and continues to advance research and development in materials, battery cells, and manufacturing processes. Li Ke's statement echoes the plan made six months ago, and the industrialization path is further converging.
Collective acceleration of industrial chain
Outside of BYD, a cross domestic academic and research competition is unfolding. On September 9th, CATL announced on its investor interaction platform that the company continues to invest in the research and development of all solid state batteries, and its related technologies are at the forefront of the industry. It is expected to achieve small-scale production by 2027 and is currently promoting pilot testing and engineering verification. Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group, revealed at the 2026 World Power Battery Conference on September 3 that Chery's all solid state batteries plan to undergo on-board verification in 2027.

Overseas companies also make frequent movements. On September 9th, Panasonic Energy announced plans to start shipping all solid state battery samples in the fourth quarter of 2026. The products are mainly aimed at industrial equipment and other fields, and have high heat resistance performance. The progress of Huineng Technology is even more radical: on September 2nd, the company announced the start of mass production of the high-energy density all solid state battery Gen 3.5. According to T Ü V's third-party testing report, this 185.4Ah high-capacity battery cell has a weight energy density of 381Wh/kg and a volume energy density of 903Wh/L. In February of this year, its Dunkirk super battery factory in France started construction; On September 9th, Kyushu Electric Power announced its strategic investment in Hanergy Technology, and the two sides will cooperate on next-generation batteries, energy, and industrial applications.
From a global perspective, TrendForce Consulting pointed out in the "Global Solid State Battery Industry Development Dynamics Quarterly Report_2Q26" that by 2026, the all solid state battery industry will enter a critical period of engineering verification, and technology verification in major markets such as China, Japan, and South Korea has gradually surpassed the laboratory concept verification stage. Chinese manufacturers such as CATL, BYD, and FAW have successfully promoted small-scale trial production lines, accelerating the upgrade of technology to TRL4-5. The research and development focus is also shifting from material performance breakthroughs to manufacturing processes, product consistency, and vehicle specification level verification.

There are still a few hurdles before mass production
The schedule has been set, but there are still multiple obstacles in between, from demonstration loading to large-scale popularization, such as mature technology, improved yield, cost reduction, and improved supply chain. Around 2027, it will be a key milestone for all solid state batteries to move from research and development verification to demonstration installation: BYD, CATL, and Chery will promote installation or small-scale production, while Huineng Technology will be the first to enter the mass production stage.keywords:New energy information network
