The North African new energy track welcomes a heavyweight cooperation, with CATL and Egyptian MCV jointly establishing BME Battery Manufacturing Company and building a new power battery factory in Egypt. The initial investment of the project exceeds 2 billion Egyptian pounds, anchoring the production of commercial vehicle batteries and expanding into passenger cars and energy storage products in the long term. Relying on Egypt's advantageous location, the project takes into account both local supporting facilities and overseas exports, promoting the development of the North African domestic battery industry chain from scratch and injecting new momentum into the regional electrification development.

Project Capacity Planning

BMEBatteryManufacturing is a joint venture between Egyptian MCV and AutoD, and will establish a multi category electric vehicle battery factory. The first phase of the project is planned to have an annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt hour, with an initial investment of over 2 billion Egyptian pounds. The products will be prioritized for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The second phase of the project plans to increase the annual production capacity to 5 gigawatt hours, add new production capacity for passenger car batteries and wind and solar energy storage systems, and gradually expand the application scenarios of the products.

Empowering the local market

The factory has set a target localization rate of 40%, with products supplied to both domestic and international markets in Egypt. Local battery production can reduce Egypt's dependence on battery imports, lower logistics and transportation costs for car companies, and achieve deep linkage between battery production lines and vehicle manufacturing. Nearby supporting facilities can also improve the response speed of electric vehicle projects, unleash export potential, and solidify the foundation of Egypt's new energy manufacturing. High level support from Egypt

Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbli called for accelerating the implementation of various stages of the project, promoting the localization of the battery industry, and enhancing the country's manufacturing strength. Industry Minister Khalid Hashim said that the project is a crucial step for Egypt to develop local battery manufacturing and promote the transformation of electric vehicles and energy storage. Egypt, with its advantageous geographical location and engineering manufacturing capabilities, is expected to occupy a more important position in the global battery supply chain.Editor/Min Jing
