As soon as the morning mist dispersed from the steel rails of the Chengdu Chongqing Railway, the gantry crane at Neijiang International Railway Port had already lifted the first container of the day. The truck driver lightly turned the steering wheel and parked the box loaded with auto parts and food at the designated position. The staff scanned the QR code on the box door and completed the information verification in less than ten seconds. A few hours later, the middle-aged and elderly train heading to Vientiane honked and drove out of the port area.

Crossing the threshold of one million tons in one year

No one expected that this new port, which will only be officially put into operation in August 2025, would complete a leap from 0 to 1 million tons in just 13 months. From January to August 2026, the cumulative cargo throughput of Neijiang International Railway Port exceeded 1.01 million tons, with 32200 TEUs of containers completed. The highest monthly throughput has exceeded 150000 tons, with an average daily loading and unloading efficiency of 5000 tons, allowing manufacturing enterprises around southern Sichuan to no longer have to rush to distant ports to queue for cargo.

Southbound trains run at an eight fold growth rate

In the first eight months of 2026, international trains in the port area shipped 122 trains and 2000 TEUs, with a year-on-year increase of 817% in freight volume. 29 international routes weave into a dense network, delivering goods to 17 countries. Neijiang has become the only city in Sichuan that can fully cover all five cross-border logistics routes heading south. Locally produced auto parts and new materials no longer need to travel thousands of kilometers, and can directly board international trains at one's own doorstep, reducing the time to go abroad by nearly half compared to the past.
