The hinterland of East Africa by Lake Victoria, Uganda, once famous for agriculture and lake freshness, is ushering in the era of black gold. When the president personally shoveled up the first piece of soil, a national level oil hub broke ground - the buried crude oil finally had an export to the world.

On September 17, 2026, President Museveni presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kampala oil storage terminal in Namwablar, Mpigi District, about 26 kilometers west of Kampala. The project is fully invested and constructed by Uganda National Oil Company, with a total investment of approximately 309.7 million US dollars, covering an area of 300 acres and a storage capacity of 3.2 million liters. The project is accompanied by the construction of a 211 kilometer pipeline, connecting to the Hoima Refinery. As a national level oil storage hub in Uganda, the completion of KST will significantly enhance the local crude oil and refined oil reserves and distribution capabilities. After the foundation of KST, comprehensive civil construction and equipment installation will be carried out. Earthwork, pile foundation, tank hoisting, process pipelines, and fire water supply and drainage engineering will drive large-scale procurement of steel, concrete, tank steel plates, large-diameter pipelines, and mechanical and electrical equipment. Supporting a 211 kilometer oil pipeline, continuously consuming pipes and anti-corrosion insulation materials.
