On September 11, 2026, CNEEC successfully obtained the bid letter for the 100MW gas peak shaving power station project in Gimli, Sabah, Malaysia. This is another fruitful achievement of the company's deep cultivation of the Malaysian market, marking the continuous improvement of localization construction and professional operation capabilities. The project plans to construct a 100MW internal combustion engine power station using dual fuel gas engine technology, with natural gas as the main fuel and distillate fuel oil as the backup fuel. The generated electricity will be directly connected to the power company's substation through a new 132kV switching station and underground cables, and integrated into the Sabah power grid.

Dual fuel technology adapts to peak shaving demand

The project adopts dual fuel gas engine technology, with natural gas as the main fuel and distillate fuel oil as the backup fuel. CNEEC will serve as the general contractor and provide full chain EPC services from design to delivery for the project. After the completion of the project, the unit will have the ability to quickly increase load, and can quickly increase power generation output during peak electricity consumption periods, which will effectively improve the stability of Sabah's power supply and play an important role in promoting local energy structure optimization and supporting green and low-carbon development. The differentiated competitive advantage of gas-fired peak shaving power stations is becoming the core capability for China National Electric Corporation to continue to deepen its presence in the Malaysian market.

Deeply cultivating Malaysia for nearly 20 years

China National Electric Engineering Corporation (CNEEC) has been deeply involved in the Malaysian market for nearly 20 years, and has undertaken multiple projects including the SABAH 190MW combined cycle power plant project, the 2 × 90 ton DC electric furnace air and fuel system project, and the 132kV transmission substation project. The SABAH 190MW combined cycle power plant project has been operating well since its commissioning, with an average annual utilization rate of 97% to 98%, receiving unanimous praise from the owners. The company has also undertaken three major repairs and related spare parts supply work for the power plant. At the same time, the company continues to track a series of local projects, deeply connects with property owners, energy regulatory authorities, and supply chain resources, and accumulates rich local resources, laying a solid foundation for deepening the Malaysian market. Localized operation continues to improve

This winning bid demonstrates the company's differentiated competitive advantage in the field of gas-fired power generation, and is an important practice for the company to implement the requirements of the group's industrialization and internationalization strategy. From combined cycle power plants to gas-fired peak shaving power stations, from transmission substations to electric furnace air and fuel systems, CNEEC's business territory in Malaysia continues to expand. Based on the accumulated local resources and technological capabilities over the past two decades, the company is continuously enhancing its market competitiveness through specialized operations and localized construction, providing a Chinese solution for the stability of power supply and optimization of energy structure in Sabah.Editor/Gao Xue
