Russia continues to promote the upgrading of its modern transportation system, officially announcing a blueprint for the construction of high-speed rail in the long term. The plan is to build a comprehensive high-speed rail transit network and comprehensively enhance regional commuting and connectivity capabilities.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savilev announced plans at an international youth forum, stating that the country plans to build a high-speed rail network of over 4500 kilometers by 2050, with five core lines laid out to fully connect key cities and surrounding areas in the country. The entire road network is expected to have an annual passenger flow of 77 million people, and about 350 high-speed trains need to be deployed for operation along the entire line.

As a core project, the Moscow Saint Petersburg high-speed railway has a total length of 679 kilometers and is expected to be put into operation in 2028. The maximum speed of the train can reach 400 kilometers per hour, and one-way travel only takes 2 hours and 15 minutes. It is estimated that the annual passenger flow will reach 23 million by 2030. The remaining four lines will handle the remaining 54 million passenger flows.
