On September 17, 2026, Morocco and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed two financing agreements totaling 405 million euros in Rabat to support the modernization of Morocco's railway infrastructure and talent training. The financing agreement was signed by the representative of the Moroccan Minister of Finance in charge of budget affairs and the head of the African Development Bank in Morocco. The General Manager of ONCF and others attended the signing ceremony.

Among them, a loan of 205 million euros will be used for the Moroccan Railway Infrastructure Development Support Project (PADIF), with a focus on enhancing the transportation capacity and operational efficiency of the Kenitra Marrakesh railway corridor. The project will further enhance the capacity of this strategic corridor by extending high-speed railway lines and strengthening existing railway infrastructure; Another 200 million euros in financing will be used to support the Moroccan Cap Comp é tences 2030 Skills Development Plan, with a focus on improving the quality of vocational training, expanding training coverage, and promoting digitalization of related services.

The African Development Bank stated that both financing options are important measures to support Morocco's long-term development strategy. Among them, railway financing will support the expansion of high-speed railway networks, while vocational skills training programs aim to strengthen human capital construction and youth employment.

At present, Morocco is continuously promoting the expansion of its high-speed railway network, and the Kenitra Marrakesh high-speed railway started construction in April last year. On the basis of the existing Dangil Kenitra high-speed railway line, Morocco plans to further extend its high-speed railway network southward, connecting major cities such as Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakesh.Editor/Min Jing
