The construction of the second phase of the high-speed railway in Morocco has received critical funding support, with the landing of a special loan from the African Development Bank and the participation of multiple Chinese companies in the project construction, helping to improve the local high-speed railway network.

On September 17, 2026, Morocco signed a financing agreement with the African Development Bank to implement a special loan of 241 million US dollars for the Ganitra Marrakesh high-speed railway project, with a loan term of 20 years and a grace period of 5 years. The total length of the line is 430 kilometers, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It is the core project of the second phase of Morocco's high-speed railway, with a total investment of about 10.1 billion US dollars. It will connect multiple core cities and improve the national high-speed railway network.
In this project construction, multiple Chinese enterprises achieved full chain cluster participation, won half of the civil engineering sections, undertook high difficulty tunnel projects, and completed the first export of Chinese high-speed rail rails to Africa. The project will ensure transportation for the 2030 World Cup, consolidate Morocco's position as a European African land hub, and also mark the upgrade of Chinese enterprises from engineering contracting to standard output of the entire industry chain when going global.Editor/Min Jing
