On the coastline of Vietnam, two high-speed railway lines are quietly unfolding. Siemens Mobility and VinSpeed have signed a 1 billion euro contract, turning the rail vision from Hanoi to Guangning and Bincheng to Qinqian into concrete implementation for the first time. This marks the beginning of a collaboration around speed and standards.

Train bulk order landing

On September 22, 2026, Siemens Mobility officially announced that VinSpeed High Speed Railway Investment and Development Co., Ltd. in Vietnam signed a turnkey project contract with Siemens Mobility for the Hanoi Guangning and Bincheng Qinzhou high-speed railways. The contract value is up to 1 billion euros, based on the comprehensive strategic cooperation and technology transfer agreement signed by both parties in December 2025, transforming the strategic partnership into specific projects and implementations. Siemens Mobility will deliver 10 Velaro Novo trains for two railway lines, including the Hanoi Guangning line with a total length of 121 kilometers and 4 stations, and the Bincheng Qinqian line with a total length of 54 kilometers and 2 stations, while providing communication and electrification solutions. VinSpeed is responsible for the project development, track construction, and civil engineering of two railways.

The all-new generation of trains

The construction of the Hanoi Guangning railway started before the signing of the contract, with groundbreaking on April 12, 2026, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. The Vietnamese government has announced an investment of over 147 trillion Vietnamese dong, approximately 5.6 billion US dollars, excluding land acquisition costs. The Velaro Novo delivered this time is Siemens Mobility's new generation distributed electric multiple unit, with a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Each train consists of 7 carriages 200 meters long, with a total of 760 seats. With its wide body and air traffic control structure design, the passenger capacity is at least 10% higher than the previous generation train. The train is also equipped with automatic train operation technology and integrated with the European Train Control System Level 2 signal platform, which can automatically optimize train spacing and improve operational accuracy and energy efficiency through intelligent control of speed, acceleration, and braking. Holding the standard in hand

This will be the world's first deployment of ATO technology based on ETCS in national high-speed railway networks, marking a new step for the railway industry. The announcement did not specify how the 10 trains would be allocated between the two lines, nor did it release a detailed delivery schedule. Siemens has been active in the Vietnamese market since 1993, providing advanced technologies in the fields of energy, healthcare, and transportation for decades, playing a key role in Vietnam's industrialization process, and having offices in Hanoi, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City. With its expertise in the field of high-speed rail, Siemens Mobility is becoming the standard setter for Vietnam's high-speed rail, laying the foundation for Vietnam's future long-distance high-speed rail network.Editor/Min Jing
