Poland is accelerating the layout of a modern high-speed rail network, and the outdated power supply system has been limiting the high-speed rail upgrade. In order to build a high standard high-speed railway line with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the local government has launched a bidding process for the construction of core traction substations, attracting many well-known companies from around the world to participate in the bidding with broad development prospects.

Giants gather to bid
CPK, the central transportation hub company in Poland, is advancing the design and construction project of high-speed rail traction substations, adopting a competitive dialogue procurement method and completing pre qualification. This project has received applications from eight bidding entities, including seven consortia and a total of eighteen participating companies, bringing together international industry giants such as Siemens Mobility. Subsequently, CPK will screen no more than seven bidders to enter the negotiation stage and select the best cooperation units.
This bidding includes the design and construction work of three traction substations, serving two core high-speed railway sections in Poland, while reserving the option of constructing two new substations to supplement the power supply capacity of the lines in the future. The project adopts an integrated design and construction mode, and the contractor is responsible for the entire process of design approval, engineering construction, system debugging, and formal operation.

Technological innovation
This project will be the first to implement a 2 × 25 kV AC power supply system in the Polish railway network, which is a key guarantee for achieving a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour for high-speed rail operation. The fully equipped power supply monitoring system is compatible with two power supply modes: 3 kV DC and 2 × 25 kV AC, and is suitable for the connection and operation needs of local new and old power lines. All substations will be connected to the Polish State Grid's 400 kV and 220 kV transmission networks, and the core line grid connection agreement has been successfully signed. According to the construction plan, the Warsaw to Łó d ź high-speed railway section is expected to open in 2032, and the Poznan and Wroc ł aw direction high-speed railway sections are planned to be put into operation in 2035, which will comprehensively improve Poland's modern high-speed transportation system.Editor/Min Jing
