Recently, at the 2026 ASEAN International Technology Transfer and Innovation Cooperation Conference, Budi Parawala, Chairman of the Electronic Information Research Institute of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency, once again met with the humanoid robot Xiao Ke. Since its establishment in 2013, the Dongchuang Conference has been held for 14 sessions, anchoring the main line of China ASEAN scientific and technological cooperation. It has built an integrated network of high-level dialogue, academic discussions, technology docking, and achievement display for scientific and technological exchanges, attracting more than 4600 ASEAN enterprises to participate, promoting more than 4900 innovative projects, and facilitating the signing of 96 key projects. Along the way, the technological innovation cooperation between China and ASEAN is moving from one-way technology trade to multilateral ecological co construction, upgrading from broad field and multi-level technology transfer to a new stage of high-precision and strong empowerment AI cooperation.

Exhibits range from seedlings to humanoid robots

The most obvious changes are reflected in the exhibits. In the early stages of the establishment of the Dongchuang Association, the main performers on stage were primary practical products and technologies such as seedlings and seeds, traditional agricultural machinery, and automotive parts. Nowadays, cutting-edge achievements such as embodied intelligence, humanoid robots, large models, and high-end intelligent manufacturing are at the forefront. A total of 2316 products were exhibited at the 14th conference, witnessing the transition of China ASEAN technological cooperation from traditional industries to the intelligent era. On September 17, 2026, after visiting the 23rd China ASEAN Expo Advanced Technology Exhibition, the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Myanmar, Ne Ky Laiden, evaluated that Guangxi's first hard core achievements were impressive: the Beibu Gulf 2 satellite and 1 satellite completed constellation networking, which can carry out remote sensing monitoring for the ASEAN region; Guangxi New Energy Vehicle Laboratory pioneered the intelligent island manufacturing system, leading the industry; Guangxi Juxin Technology has built China's first gallium nitride laser mass production line. She believes that these technologies have strong applicability and great potential in ASEAN.

Cross border unveiling and leading new model

The changes in cooperation models are also evident to all. In the early years, the technological innovation cooperation between China and ASEAN was mostly based on the supply and demand matching of technology and products, mainly through one-way introduction or output. In recent years, both sides have worked together to build laboratories, adhering to demand driven and two-way linkage, and based on regional industrial realities, promoting the construction of industrial chain and supply chain systems. The cross-border innovation model of ASEAN topic setting, Guangxi ranking, joint unveiling, and collaborative research and development has gradually taken shape. Guangxi has pioneered a new model of cross-border technology cooperation in China, and this conference has released 14 application scenarios for artificial intelligence cross-border unveiling and leading in ASEAN for the first time, covering 7 ASEAN countries including Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. From demonstration base to joint laboratory

The level of cooperation is constantly increasing. The cooperation between the two parties has been upgraded from demonstration bases in agriculture, manufacturing, fisheries, and energy conservation and environmental protection to high-level platforms such as joint research and development centers, international incubators, and two-way enclaves. The connotation of cooperation has also expanded from technical exchanges and project negotiations to joint research and development, standard co construction, scenario implementation, and joint market exploration. The China ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Innovation Cooperation Center, approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is the core platform for China ASEAN cooperation in artificial intelligence innovation. In its first year of establishment, it has delivered its first impressive report: two projects, including the China ASEAN Cross border Trusted Data Flow and Intelligent Analysis Joint Laboratory and the China ASEAN Space Ionosphere Anomaly Modeling and Monitoring Key Technology Research, have received support from the National Key Research and Development Program; Layout 14 open innovation platforms for artificial intelligence; Successfully held four sessions of the China ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, attracting over 1300 projects from around the world to participate.
