Representatives from two international engineering giants have signed the latest agreement in Alkobal, located along the Persian Gulf coast, opening a new construction cycle for the stable production project of Safaniyah, the world's largest offshore oil field. Tecnimont has officially signed a contract with CCC for the Saudi Aramco Safaniyah water injection project, providing critical stable production infrastructure for this giant oil field that has been in operation for over 70 years.

Water injection infrastructure locks in long-term production capacity of old oil fields

Safaniyah, as the world's largest offshore oil field, is the core pillar of Saudi Arabia's heavy crude oil production capacity. Since its commissioning in the 1950s, it has continuously maintained formation pressure through water injection systems to ensure stable production. This water injection project is a core component of Saudi Aramco's upstream development plan. After completion, it will further improve the water injection network of the oilfield, support the long-term stable release of existing production capacity, and avoid production decline caused by natural attenuation of formation pressure.

Previously, Italian offshore giant Saipem had won a total of $900 million in related contracts at the Safaniyah oil field in 2026, covering the construction of offshore platforms, subsea pipelines, and supporting water injection facilities. This onshore and nearshore construction cooperation between Tecnimont and CCC will form synergy with previously landed offshore projects to jointly improve the water injection infrastructure system of the entire oil field.

International engineering giant deepens local layout in Saudi Arabia

The signing ceremony of this contract was completed in Alcobal, represented by the Vice President of Tecnimont Region and the Managing Director of CCC Region. According to the agreement arrangement, CCC will be fully responsible for the on-site execution and construction work of the project, relying on its local construction capabilities, technical reserves, and large-scale project delivery experience accumulated in the Saudi oil and gas engineering field to promote the full process implementation of the project. This project will not only become another iconic project for CCC in the Saudi oil and gas market, but also further consolidate its long-term partnership with Tecnimont. Both parties will simultaneously implement Saudi Aramco's requirements for localized supply chain, safe construction, and efficient delivery during project advancement, helping the world's largest offshore oil field maintain industry-leading operational efficiency and production capacity stability.Editor/Cheng Liting
