On October 9, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee, met with a joint inspection team of Pacific island politicians led by Deputy Prime Minister Latu of Tonga in Beijing. Wang Yi stated that China and Pacific island countries have mutual friendship and trust, and under the joint leadership of leaders from both sides, the comprehensive strategic partnership has become more mature and stable. China's diplomacy firmly stands on the side of developing countries, small and medium-sized countries, and fairness and justice, and has always been a reliable and dependable partner for Pacific island countries. China supports island countries in finding a development path that suits their own national conditions, and believes that Pacific island countries will continue to adhere to the One China principle.
