Expansion of the East African rail market

Tanzania will continue to build a standard gauge railway network, and the line will be extended to Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, driving the demand for locomotives. The existing standard gauge passenger vehicles in the country are mainly supplied by Hyundai Rotem from South Korea. In 2021, the company won approximately $296 million in orders to provide 10 electric multiple units and 17 electric locomotives. This bidding brings opportunities for international manufacturers to enter, and the interconnection of East African railways continues to advance. Vehicle updates and supporting operations will become a long-term demand in the region.Editor/Min Jing
