The morning breeze of the Pamir Plateau blew through the joint inspection hall of the Turgat Port, and the first truck loaded with engineering materials successfully completed the procedures and headed towards Kyrgyzstan. As of mid October 2026, the freight vehicles and cargo volume at this important port in southern Xinjiang have both grown by nearly 30%, and the vitality of the westward opening highway channel continues to be released.
Compressing customs clearance efficiency and unleashing transportation potential
From January to mid October 2026, the port has completed a total of 241000 inbound and outbound freight vehicles, with a total freight volume of 2.347 million tons. The two core indicators have increased by 30.7% and 28.5% respectively year-on-year, with a growth momentum far exceeding the same period in previous years. On October 12th, the number of inbound and outbound vehicles at the port reached 1527, carrying 19620 tons of goods in a single day, setting a new record for the highest traffic volume since the beginning of the year. The transportation support capacity of the port has been fully verified.

The port fully implements a 7 × 14 hour customs clearance system, integrating the entire process of document processing into a one-stop service. After the vehicle completes the external dimension inspection, the driver can complete all exit procedures in just 1.5 minutes. Two convenient service counters, two driver's homes, and two passenger homes are set up in the joint inspection hall, providing more than 40 free supporting services for inbound and outbound drivers and passengers. The travel experience at the plateau port continues to be optimized.
Major projects drive the upgrading of freight structure
As a key node in the opening up of southern Xinjiang to the west, Turgat Port has specially opened up a guarantee channel for the construction materials of the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Railway. All construction related building materials and machinery equipment can enjoy the convenience policy of priority inspection and immediate release. As of October 2026, a total of over 32000 railway construction related transportation vehicles have been guaranteed, fully ensuring the efficient circulation of cross-border construction materials. Recently, the demand for diesel imports in the Kyrgyzstan market has significantly increased, with a year-on-year growth rate of over 210% in diesel export freight volume in October. This further drives the continuous increase in port export freight volume, and energy materials have become a new driving force for growth.
Relying on the continuously optimized highway clearance network, the export commodity structure of ports continues to extend towards high added value, and the proportion of new energy vehicles, engineering machinery and equipment continues to increase. The industrial driving effect of cross-border transportation is further evident. In the future, as the construction of the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan railway continues to advance, the advantages of the road railway linkage at the Turgat Port will be further released, becoming an important hub for supporting regional economic and trade exchanges. The late night port cargo yard is still brightly lit, and the last truck that has completed the procedures slowly drives out of the country. This open passage on the Pamir Plateau is connecting the close economic and trade ties between China and Central Asian markets with its continuously increasing traffic efficiency in 2026.Editor/Cheng Liting
