On October 15, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met with Bahrain's Foreign Minister Zayani during his attendance at the CICA Summit in Baku.

Wang Yi stated that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China Bahrain relations have made significant progress, with stable development momentum, bringing benefits to the people of both countries. In 2024, the two countries will become comprehensive strategic partners, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to respect and support each other with the Bahraini side, enhance political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and maintain close cultural exchanges, enhance coordination and cooperation on the multilateral stage, and promote the continuous development of China Bahrain relations.

Zayani stated that Bahrain attaches great importance to its relations with China and is willing to further enhance high-level exchanges with China, strengthen cooperation in energy, tourism, finance, logistics and other fields, and further consolidate and enhance the friendly cooperation between China and Bahrain.

Both sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East. Wang Yi stated that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has had a serious impact on regional peace and stability, and is not in line with the interests of any party. The President has put forward a series of initiatives and proposals dedicated to Middle East peace, which are the wisdom and solutions contributed by China to solving the security dilemma in the Middle East. China has always believed that conflicts should not escalate and wars should not spread; Confrontation intensifies conflicts, dialogue is the right path. The sovereignty and territory of all countries should be respected, the reasonable concerns of all parties should be taken seriously, interference should be eliminated, and the direction of political settlement should continue to be adhered to. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with countries in the region, such as Bahrain, in accordance with the series of initiatives proposed by the President of the country, and help the region ultimately achieve long-term peace and stability.

Zayani stated that the current security situation in Gulf countries is very severe, and Bahrain welcomes the Chinese initiative and plan proposed by the President, which are very beneficial to regional countries. Bahrain appreciates China's consistent adherence to fairness and justice, maintaining communication with regional countries, and making positive efforts for ceasefire and cessation of war. The regional tension threatens the energy supply chain and free passage of waterways. Bahrain hopes to resolve relevant issues as soon as possible under multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council, and also hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in the United Nations Security Council to jointly address current challenges.Editor/Min Jing
