The atmosphere at the Hanoi signing hall was lively, with representatives of the local Vietnamese consortium and guests from all sides gathering to witness a historic moment. The contract for five urban rail transit lines has been officially signed, with a total length of 253.5 kilometers and a total investment of over 250 billion yuan. The blueprint for a subway network that connects the north and south of the city to the airport hub has been launched, bringing new overseas business opportunities for Chinese rail transit enterprises.

Reshaping the urban skeleton

The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Committee has officially signed a contract with the Vinhomes SGC consortium, a local Vietnamese enterprise, to construct Metro Line 1, Line 2, Line 8, Line 10, and Line 14. The project has a total length of approximately 253.5 kilometers and a total investment of over 1 trillion Vietnamese dong, approximately 258.62 billion yuan. It is planned to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2030. The project adopts a turnkey engineering general contracting model, and the consortium is fully responsible for the procurement, construction, system integration, trial operation, and delivery of survey and design equipment. The investment target for each kilometer of the project is controlled within 120 million US dollars. It is planned to adopt a standard gauge of 1435 millimeters and a CBTC train control system, with the goal of achieving GoA4 level fully autonomous driving. Digital technologies such as BIM GIS will be applied to construct a unified network operation control center. Keywords: Hanoi Metro, Rail Transit Going Global

Open the window for international cooperation

This month, the consortium has signed a contract with Alstom in France to supply up to 200 five car Metropolis subway trains for five lines, and is currently promoting the procurement of large equipment such as TBM tunnel boring machines. All five routes will start construction in mid June 2026, connecting the central satellite city airport and important transportation hubs. This centralized signing test not only tests the ability of local Vietnamese enterprises to organize large-scale projects, but also opens up new space for Chinese rail transit enterprises to compete and cooperate around the integration of vehicle signal power supply systems. The Hanoi Municipal Government requires the consortium to strengthen cooperation with international enterprises, adopt mature and reliable technologies, achieve network interconnection and promote technology transfer and local talent cultivation.Editor/Min Jing
