On October 25, 2026, the last batch of crude oil from the China Myanmar crude oil pipeline arrived smoothly at the Anning Refinery of Yunnan Petrochemical, officially crossing the 100 million ton mark. This energy channel spanning the China Myanmar border has been operating steadily in the southwestern region of China for nearly a decade.
The Southwest Energy Corridor has been operating stably for ten years
The China Myanmar crude oil pipeline is the fourth largest energy import channel in China. The starting point of the pipeline is located on Mada Island in the southeast of Myanmar's Jiaopiao Port. It enters Ruili City, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province from the China Myanmar boundary marker 58, and ends at the Anning Refinery of Yunnan Petrochemical. The total length of the Chinese section is 618 kilometers. The project was officially put into full operation in June 2017. As of October 25, 2026, the total amount of crude oil transported has exceeded 100 million tons, optimizing the allocation of oil and gas resources in Yunnan and surrounding areas, and laying a solid energy foundation for promoting high-quality economic and social development.

Yunnan, located in the southwest of China, has a complex terrain with high mountains and deep valleys. Pipeline operation and maintenance have long faced practical difficulties caused by the terrain. As the operation and management party, Yunnan Branch of National Pipeline Network Group is promoting the improvement of pipeline operation quality and efficiency through digital and intelligent transformation, and advancing the intelligent management mode of unmanned operation, unmanned duty and dedicated emergency response in stations. Currently, 5 intelligent stations have been built along the line, and the overall operation and maintenance efficiency has increased by 37% compared to the initial production in 2017.
Continuous upgrading of regional energy security capabilities
At present, the daily oil transportation of the China Myanmar crude oil pipeline has reached a stable 35000 tons. The crude oil is transported through the Indian Ocean direct transportation channel, which greatly shortens the transportation distance compared to the traditional sea route around the Strait of Malacca. It directly provides stable crude oil supply to Yunnan and surrounding regions such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Guangxi. The supporting Yunnan Petrochemical Refinery has processed over 88 million tons of crude oil in 2025, with a total industrial output value exceeding 499 billion yuan. Keywords: China Myanmar Crude Oil Pipeline, Southwest Energy Corridor

In November 2025, Yunnan Petrochemical officially opened the export channel of the China Laos railway, promoting the coordinated operation of the China Myanmar crude oil pipeline and the China Laos railway. The export of related petrochemical products covers Myanmar, Laos and other surrounding countries, and the energy radiation capacity of the southwest region further extends outward. The cross-border energy corridor from the crude oil terminal on Madedao to the refining unit at Anning Refinery is continuously injecting stable momentum into the industrial development of Southwest China.Editor/Cheng Liting
