In October 2026, the foreign trade operation data for the first three quarters of 2026 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was officially released, and the outstanding performance of resource commodity imports became the core driving force supporting the region's foreign trade scale to exceed 200 billion yuan for the first time.
The scale of coal imports has significantly increased
In the first three quarters of 2026, the total amount of imported coal in Inner Mongolia reached 63.913 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 21.8%, and the corresponding import value exceeded 40 billion yuan, with a growth rate exceeding the national average level of coal imports. The coking coal imported through Inner Mongolia ports accounts for 53% of the total coking coal imports in the country. More than half of the imported coking coal in the country enters through various ports in Inner Mongolia, becoming the core channel for domestic steel coking enterprises to obtain high-quality coking coal resources.

The rapid growth of coal imports directly matches the production and preparation needs of the domestic steel industry in autumn and winter, and also provides stable fuel reserves for electric heating enterprises in the North China region. In the first three quarters of 2026, Hohhot Customs will continue to optimize the coal import customs clearance process, achieving same day declaration and completion for cross-border transportation between Mongolia and Russia. The overall customs clearance efficiency will be improved by more than 50%, significantly reducing the logistics time cost of import enterprises.
Mineral product imports support foreign trade chassis
During the same period, the total amount of imported metal ore sand in Inner Mongolia reached 14.383 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%. The import scale of core mineral products such as copper ore sand and iron ore sand maintained stable growth. Coal and metal ore, together accounting for 83.5% of the total import value of the entire region, are the core ballast stones supporting the stable growth of Inner Mongolia's foreign trade. The resilience of resource commodity imports directly determines the overall stability of the region's foreign trade operation. Keywords: coal export, foreign trade export

In the first three quarters of 2026, the total import and export value of Inner Mongolia's foreign trade reached 207.62 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32.8%, ranking fourth in the country in terms of growth rate and 14 percentage points higher than the national average growth rate. Among them, the import and export to Mongolia and Russia amounted to 120.58 billion yuan, an increase of 56.4%, accounting for 58.1% of the total foreign trade value of the region. The value of cross-border port resource channels was further released, and the stable import of bulk commodities also provided a solid guarantee for the security of the national energy and resource supply chain in the northern border.Editor/Cheng Liting
