The rushing water flow of the Itaipu hydropower station is being given a new mission - no longer just lighting up thousands of lights, but also driving the computing power engine of artificial intelligence. Crusoe and Araico join hands to build a future oriented AI infrastructure next to this abundant hydroelectric resource.

Water and electricity computing power join hands
AI infrastructure and cloud platform operator Crusoe announced a partnership with Paraguayan energy infrastructure company Araico to build high-performance AI computing facilities based on the power resources of the Itaipu hydroelectric power plant.

The first phase of the project will be put into operation in mid-2027, with the computing power expandable to 106 megawatts, and the long-term plan is about 280 megawatts. The data center is adjacent to the substation, directly accessing high-quality water and electricity resources, and relying on Crusoe Cloud to serve customers in the United States and Latin America. This is also Crusoe's first AI cloud project in Latin America.
All parties are optimistic about the prospects
The person in charge of Crusoe stated that they will rely on digital infrastructure to tap into the value of hydropower resources and achieve a win-win situation for all parties. Araico executives said that cooperation can transform the advantages of hydropower into industry, employment, and innovation momentum. The report shows that Paraguay has sufficient water and electricity, a friendly business environment, and continues to attract capital inflows. The President of Paraguay evaluated that the project will activate local resources, bring investment, technology, and employment, and help the country build regional AI infrastructure advantages. Industry data predicts that the South American data center market will increase from $5.72 billion in 2026 to $8.88 billion in 2031, with broad growth potential.Editor/Gong Ziwei
