President Tokayev emphasized the strategic significance of building the Bakt Ayaguz railway in his State of the Union address. The implementation of this large-scale project will further improve Kazakhstan's transportation and logistics infrastructure, expand railway transportation channels to China, and enhance the country's transit transportation capacity.

According to the News Office of the Ministry of Transport, railway construction is currently accelerating, and the earthwork project has been completed by 92%. At the same time, the construction of bridges and culverts, as well as the laying of railway superstructures, are still ongoing.

According to the plan, by the end of 2026, the construction party will have completed the laying of 70 kilometers of rail sleeper tracks. At present, about 870 professional mechanical equipment and 1450 staff have been deployed at the project construction site.

The newly built Bakt Ayaguz railway has a total length of 303 kilometers and is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2027.

After the implementation of this project, it is expected to open the third railway border passage between Kazakhstan and China. This will help alleviate the transportation pressure on the existing Dostyk and Altankuole railway ports, improve the efficiency of goods circulation and distribution, and create more conditions for expanding the railway freight volume between the two countries.

It is predicted that the annual transportation capacity of the new railway line can reach 20 million tons. After the railway is completed and put into operation, it will further expand Kazakhstan's export capacity, increase domestic product exports to China, attract more transit cargo flows, and promote further development of economic and trade cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
